Data Protection

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 any business processing personal data must comply with principles of good practice. Computers contain sensitive information such as access codes, emails, financial details and photographs. Therefore when a company disposes of redundant IT equipment it is important to ensure all data stored on the machines will be deleted. 

Hazardous Waste

Certain items such as CRT Monitors and Lead Acid Batteries requiring disposal are classed as hazardous waste and must be collected, transported and treated in accordance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH). Examples of these items are CRT Monitors and Lead Acid batteries.

Any business that produces more than 500kg of hazardous waste (circa 30 CRT monitors) per year, must register with the Environment Agency as a hazardous waste producer. This registration number will then be used on the Waste Transfer Note and Certificate of Destruction issued by Red Vista. Registration is easy and can be done from the Environment Agency website.

Paperwork

Red Vista will supply you with copies of a Waste Transfer Note for each collection made. When the items have been treated, a Certificate of Destruction is sent to you detailing the collection and disposal of your items. These documents show that your have fulfilled your duty of care when disposing of your redundant IT and electrical equipment.
